Named after the former Executive Director of CIS, The Donna H. Black Mentor of the Year Award was created to recognize one individual, from each school system, who exemplifies what it truly means to be an encouraging, consistent, stable presence for a student in need.

Each CIS Program was encouraged to nominate one mentor from their school.  This individual was named "CIS Mentor of the Year" for their school, and from that pool of individuals, one mentor from each school system was awarded The Donna H. Black Mentor of the Year.
