We believe in the impact of an encouraging word. We believe in the value of a positive role model. We believe in the worth of a mentoring relationship. Because we know they truly make a difference in the life of a child.

At Communities In Schools of Lexington/Davidson County, our main focus is empowering students to believe in both themselves and their future. We achieve this goal by providing every CIS-enrolled student with a mentor from the local community who will offer encouragement and friendship. We also connect students (those enrolled in CIS and those who are not) with community resources to creatively and effectively meet their needs.
During the 2008-2009 school year, we provided services to 391 CIS-enrolled students and community resource connections more than 13,000 other students.

At the end of the 2008-2009 school year 391 CIS-enrolled students were being served by 298 mentors at 19 schools in the Lexington City and Davidson County school systems. We facilitated 8,383 volunteer hours, working with 103 community partners and a total of 340 volunteers to creatively meet the needs of the children in our community.
